Do I need a motorcycle license to ride a scooter? If so, how can I obtain a license?
Licensing requirements are governed by state law. Some states do not require a motorcycle license or registration for engines under 50cc. However, other states, including Florida, require different motorcycle licenses based on the size of the engine. Please contact your local licensing office to determine the licensing requirements that apply to you.
How do I break in my scooter?
Please refer to your owner’s manual and contact your local authorized dealer for support and recommendations specific to your scooter.
In general, a properly broken in engine creates a tight fit between the piston rings and the cylinder walls, which helps prevent oil leaks and improves your scooter’s power and performance.
The following are some general tips for breaking in your engine:
- Do a lot of city riding with stop-and-go traffic.
- Do not break in your scooter on an open road with open throttle.
- After about 300 miles, have your scooter’s oil changed by your local authorized dealer. After this first service and inspection, we recommend having your scooter serviced and inspected every 700 miles at a minimum.
- Change your scooter’s oil frequently to help ensure a long engine life.
How do I maintain my scooter/motorcycle?
- Use quality-assured fuel 91 octane.
- Change the scooter’s oil regularly.
- Inspect and/or change the air filter according to your operating environment.
- Have the transmission belt inspected after 4000 miles.
- Maintain tire pressure at 25/30 PSI.
- Check and keep your lights in working condition.
I am interested in buying a scooter but do not know how to ride. Where can I find a rider’s course?
Organizations, such as Motorcycle Safety Foundation, offer riding courses where you can take classes and improve your riding skills in a safe and controlled environment. Find a course near you at http://msf-usa.org.
If I install after-market performance parts, will that void my warranty?
Yes, any performance modifications or changes to factory or dealer settings will void your warranty. After-market modifications can diminish your scooter’s reliability and longevity. Such modifications may also impact your scooter’s emissions, which are regulated by law and may present legal issues.
Is my warranty transferable?
No, your warranty is only valid for the original registered owner.
My scooter will not start, what should I do?
Remember to mash your brake to start the engine and ensure your emergency shut off is in the open position. If your scooter still will not start, have it inspected by your local authorized dealer.
Fuel purity, battery life, and extreme temperature changes may impact your scooter’s ability to start.
Scooters generally have smaller engines that are more sensitive to stale fuel and fuel impurities. Stale fuel can clog your carburetor.
Scooter batteries drain faster when they are driven only for short distances and stored for extended lengths of time. Extended non-operation can kill your scooter’s battery.
Cold mornings and hot afternoons can also cause starting difficulties. Please be familiar with how to “winterize” your scooter when it is not in use. Scheduled maintenance and regular oil changes are an easy way to ensure your scooter will run smoothly for years
What is my warranty, and how does it work?
Your authorized dealer will provide warranty and service support.
